Research focus on weather and climate change impacts on human health in Sweden and in low- and middle-income countries.
Associate Professor; PhD in epidemiology. Research focus on weather and climate change impacts on human health. Ongoing studies on weather-related mortality in northern Sweden during the demographic transition, using historical population and weather records, and on the role of oppressive weather types on mortality and morbidity in contemporary and future Sweden. Another focus is on public health impacts of and adaptation to drought-related migration in East Africa, and on the situation of African pastoralists in a changing environment. Other interests concern communities' vulnerabilities and adaptation to climate change in low and middle income countries, and more generally environmental health and sustainability in the Anthropocene.
Currently I am guest editor of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health with a special issue titled “Health and Health Care in the Context of Environmental and Climate-Related Migration”.
