Associate professor at Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation Section: Physiotherapy
Location

I do research and teach about physiotherapy. Physiotherapy is important because adapted physical activity can have a substantial impact on health. I want to contribute to this by development and dissemination of knowledge.

Research focus

My field of research is about ergonomics for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders from physically demanding work. The research is often quantitatively oriented, where I use technical measurement methods to describe biomechanical load.

Science outreach

I contribute to development of Swedish standards within the ergonomics work group for SIS, as a participant from the Ergonomics and Human Factors Society in Sweden. Further, I continuously perform various review assignments such as for WorkSafeBC (Workers Compensation Board), British Columbia, Canada.

Clinical experience

I have worked with various patient categories in outpatient and inpatient care as well as private, mainly with functional disability from orthopedic and neurological injuries and diseases.

Academy

My doctorate was in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Umeå University, Sweden. I did my post-doc at the University of Queensland, Australia. Postgraduate studies was in healthcare science, with a focus on movement capability.

Activities

I teach mainly about the structure and function of the human body at the Physiotherapy program, where I am also organiser for courses. The teaching includes both theory and practice.

Pedagogical approach

Subject specific didactics is important for providing useful examples and creating realistic situations in professional education, such as for students within a physiotherapy program. I appreciate a diversity of students with different learning styles, I myself learn best by trying and discussing. In my teaching, I use student-active methods and digital tools in order for students to become co-creative, independent and critical.

Assignments

I have been active within the Medical faculty at Umeå University as a coordinator for the Research Aspirants and member of the Undergraduate Education Council. I have also been Chairman of the Program Council for the Occupational therapist-, Physiotherapist- and Sports Programs. I did a sabbatical at the Ohio State University, USA.
