Associate professor at Department of Psychology

My current research takes place together with the research group in Health and Environment at the Department of Psychology with an interest in environmental sensitivity, such as hypersensitivity to electromagnetic fileds (EMF).

I began my academic career in 1987 with two years of study in philosophy and political science at the University of Gothenburg, where I then continued with one year of study in psychology. I then completed my bachelor's studies at Umeå University and was admitted to the doctoral program at the then Department of Psychology in Umeå in 1995. I have taught and researched at what later became the Department of Psychology in Umeå since 1995.

I defended my dissertation in 2003 on the subject of phonological representations in dyslexia and in 2004 I was hired as an associate professor.

I have devoted a large part of my work to pedagogical development work at the department by, among other things, being responsible for the Master's and then the Bachelor's Program in Cognitive Science between 2004-2011. I was also director of studies at the Department of Psychology between 2008-2014 and deputy head of department with responsibility for education between 2011-2019.

1 January 2010 until 31 December 2024

At present, I have teaching assignments as a course leader for the psychologist programs' thesis courses and as a course leader for a course on reading and writing development in the speech therapy program's fifth semester. I also have a single lecture on language development in the teacher education.

Since 2012, I have been part of a network called the European Society of Psychology Learning and Teaching (ESPLAT). ESPLAT works to promote learning and teaching in psychology and organizes conferences every other year and publishes a scientific journal.

I have taught at the Department of Psychology in Umeå since 1995. Over the years, I have taught and had educational assignments on a variety of courses and educations. My teaching has mainly concerned perception, cognition and developmental psychology as well as research methods and basic statistics.

Among other things, I have been a course leader for the A and B course in psychology for 14 semesters and later been a course leader for the course Introductory course in psychology for 16 semesters. I was also a course leader in the first semester's second course in the psychology program on Psychological functions in 12 semesters. Thus, I have had the privilege of meeting, teaching and interacting with many beginner students in psychology. Meeting students who have just started an education and meeting and discussing their expectations and experiences is among the most rewarding things I can think of as a university teacher.

My teaching assignments have also given me many exciting experiences from various educations where I have had the opportunity to teach students in psychology programs, cognitive science programs, speech therapy program, behavioral science program with a focus on IT environments, teacher programs, coaching program, master's program in leadership and organization and SPA- the program.

In the context of education, I have over the years been a representative for psychology in the program councils for the Bachelor's program in cognitive science, the BIT program, the Sports Science program, the Speech Therapist program and the Personnel Science program. I was also a regular member of the Social Sciences Faculty's Education Council / Education Committee between 2009–2019.
