Information for students, faculty and staff regarding COVID-19. (Updated: 21 October 2020)
I am a PhD student in Sámi Dutkan/Sámi Studies at the Department of Language Studies. I also have a digital humanities profile and am affiliated to Humlab, Várdduo – Centre for Sámi Research and Arcum – the Arctic Centre at Umeå University.
My research interests revolve around how artistic expressions and practices shape discourses influencing socio-political power relations, particularily in regards to contemporary Sápmi-Sweden.
At current, I have just finalised the writing of a dissertation entitled Decolonising Artivism in Contemporary Sápmi. Through the work of four contemporary artists – poet and spoken word artist Timimie Märak, artivist Jenni Laiti (including the artivist network Suohpanterror), painter and street artist Anders Sunna, and joik musician Jörgen Stenberg – issues on artivistic work and practice in relation to decolonisation is explored. The dissertation is written in Swedish, with summaries in Nort Sámi and English. The defence will take place on October 9, 10 am, in Hörsal B, Samhällsvetarhuset, Umeå University.
