Information for students, faculty and staff regarding COVID-19. (Updated: 1 July 2020)
I am a PhD student in Sámi Dutkan/Sámi Studies at the Department of Language Studies. I also have a digital humanities profile and am affiliated to Humlab, Várdduo – Centre for Sámi Research and Arcum – the Arctic Centre at Umeå University.
My research interests revolve around how artistic expressions and practices shape discourses influencing socio-political power relations, particularily in regards to contemporary Sápmi-Sweden.
At current, I am working with a dissertation called Decolonising Artivism in Contemporary Sápmi. Through the work of four contemporary artists – poet and spoken word artist Timimie Märak, artivist Jenni Laiti (including the artivist network Suohpanterror), painter and street artist Anders Sunna, and joik musician Jörgen Stenberg – issues on artivistic work and practice in relation to decolonisation is explored. The dissertation is written in Swedish and is due for defence in September 2020.
