Description

We are announcing a Postdoc position at the Department of Nursing in the project “Evaluation of mechanisms that modulate and predict pain perception.”

The position is for two years, full time. The start date will be as soon as possible after the employment agreement. The application deadline is 2023-01-31.

Project description

The aim of the project is to investigate whether stress and anxiety affect pain experiences and whether this is associated with neurochemical levels in the brain. Spectroscopy will be used to measure selected neurotransmitters (GABA and glutamate) in 2 pain-related brain regions. In addition, we study how human touch affects pain signaling and perception. The project is interdisciplinary, including researchers with expertise in several fields.

Task assignments

The post-doctoral work will include data collection, statistical analyses, writing of manuscripts, and participating in study design.

Qualifications

Individuals with a Ph.D. in the following fields are eligible to apply:  nursing, medicine, physiotherapy, psychology, radiography, chemistry, or equivalent scientific skills. This eligibility requirement must be met at the latest when the employment decision is made. The applicant must be able to summarize and present results at scientific meetings and write scientific reports in English.

Since employment as a post-doctoral fellow is a professional development position for junior researchers, we primarily target those with a doctoral degree no older than three years from the last date of application. A doctoral degree older than three years can be considered if there are special reasons, such as work interruption due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust within trade unions, or other similar circumstances.

We are looking for a well-qualified and highly motivated employee with skills in statistical analysis. The applicant should be able to understand Swedish. We value the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a research team. Research experience in the field of pain and/or magnetic resonance imaging/ spectroscopy is an advantage. Strong emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
