Innehåll

Contents
The purpose of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge of international sports law by studying central issues and themes, including for example the concept of international sports law, organizational framework, regulatory framework, dispute resolution in sports, athletes’ fundamental rights, anti-discrimination and protection of young athletes, athlete eligibility, doping and other disciplinary actions, intellectual property rights in sports, competition law, other commercial disputes, labor relations, and agents.
 

Förväntade studieresultat

Expected learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students shall:
exhibit advanced knowledge of central aspects of international sports law,
be able to identify and in writing analyze legal questions regarding the aspects dealt within the themes of the course, and
show ability to present their own findings and be able to discuss their own and the other papers during the tutorials.
 
 

Behörighetskrav

A minimum of 90 university credits in law, including an individual essay carrying at least 15 university credits, or 120 university credits from the Law Programme, or equivalent qualifications. 
Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A (IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 5.5 and no individual score below 5.0. TOEFL PBT (Paper-based Test) with a minimum total score of 530 and a minimum TWE score of 4. TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) with a minimum total score of 72 and a minimum score of 17 on the Writing Section).

Undervisningens upplägg

Form of instruction
Instruction is in the form of fifteen tutorials where short papers are presented and discussed. Before each tutorial, the student will write a short paper on a topic assigned by the teacher and read all other participating students’ papers. During the tutorial, the students and the teacher will discuss and comment on all papers. After the tutorial, the students will have an opportunity to revise and resubmit the paper based on the discussion during the tutorial.
 
The language of the course, including its literature, is English.
 
A student who has been accepted and registered for the course has the right to teaching and guidance only during the term/academic year when the student was accepted and registered.
 

Examination

Examination modes
Examination takes place through fulfillment of two parts, a compulsory oral part specified in component 1 below, and a compulsory written part as specified in component 2 below.
 
Component 1
Assessment of the student’s ability to orally present and discuss the student’s papers and the student’s ability to discuss other students’ papers during the tutorials given during the course.
 
Component 2
Assessment of the student’s ability of written analysis and argumentation. At the end of the course, the student selects five of the papers authored during the course for assessment. These papers can be revised after original submission.
 
Grading
The different grades awarded for the course are Fail (U), Pass (G) and Pass with Distinction (VG).
 
Components 1 and 2 above are examined separately. To receive a passing course grade, a passing grade for both component 1 and 2 is required. The course grade is based on the sum of the result of the assessment of components 1 and 2 above.
 
A student who has failed components 1 or 2 above is entitled to complete make-up assignment(s) in order to reach a passing grade for each component, but not a higher grade.
 
The examiner may decide to use other forms of examination if required by particular circumstances.
 
A student who has passed examination may not be re-examined. A student who has taken two tests for a course or segment of a course, without passing, has the right to have another examiner appointed, unless special reasons exist. A written request for change of examiner is submitted to the Director of Undergraduate Education.
