Innehåll

The purpose of the course is to provide a general overview and specialization in the field of global and regional governance.  The course aims at developing knowledge and competence relevant to employment at various administrative levels in Sweden as well as abroad. The course also prepares the students for further academic studies on Ph.D. level.

The course contains advanced literature studies, investigative work, scientific analysis, and empirical case studie
.
The first part of the course consists of an overview of general conditions for global and regional governance in teh world. The second part is a case study of governance, public administration, politics  and development in China.

Förväntade studieresultat

After the course studentes are expected to be able to

- describe and compare institutions and processes for global and regional governance,
- discuss and compare how various theories define, understand and analyze governance,
- define and operationalize relevant concepts,  and use these to complete written and oral assignments,
- identify, collect, and work  with empirical as well as theoretical material relevant to carrying out said assignments, and
- individually complete analyses of global and regional governance, and present these in written as well as oral form
- analyze the specific conditions at hand for governance, public administration, politics and development in China
.
For these purposes, the student shall have

- insights into current social science literature related to the subject of the course
- ability to think critically and constructively regarding various scientific perspectives
- competence regarding decision-making processes in global and regional institutions
- ability to individually identify, structure, and analyze complex political processes, and ability to handle questions of methodology and to systematically gather information.

Behörighetskrav

Freds- och konfliktstudier 90 hp (60p) eller Statsvetenskap 90 hp (60p) eller motsvarande.En A och svenska för grundläggande behörighet för högskolestudier om utbildningen ges på svenska.

Undervisningens upplägg

The course is based on lectures, seminars, oral presentations made by the students and written assignments.

Examination

Examination modes
The course is examined through participation in seminars, written assignments and oral presentations. The final grade - Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG) – is based on combination of said examination modes.  The Study guide that will be handed out during the introduction to the course will contain more information about these examination modes.

Students who fail an examination may take a retest. Students may retest at least 5 times. A student has the right to request a new examiner if he/she fails two examinations. In such cases students should contact the Director of Studies (Studierektor). A student has the right to an examination based on the course and literature described in this document for a period of two years after he/she first registered for the course.

Academic transfer of credits
The Director of Studies (Studierektor) makes decisions about transfer credits for a module or course. Students who want to transfer credits should submit a written request to the Director of Undergraduate Studies. The request should specify which module or course the request applies to. An official transcript should also be submitted. The transcript must include the following information: where and when the course was given, the discipline and level of the course, total course credits and grade received. A syllabus describing the course and listing required reading should be submitted with the request. Where applicable, written research papers should also be submitted.
