Dosimetry I, 22.5
About the course package
The course package consists of Radiation interaction 7.5 ECTS and Dosimetry 15 ECTS. The first course contains a thorough coverage of interaction with matter for photons and charged particles, interaction cross-sections, mass stopping power, bremsstrahlung, and production of X-rays in the x-ray tube. An overview is also given of relevant Monte Carlo techniques.
In the second course the interaction processes, described in the radiation interaction course, are applied on a macroscopic scale, leading to quantities such as kerma, exposure and absorbed dose. Basic concepts such as energy transferred, net energy transferred, energy imparted, Fanos theorem and W/e are also covered. Different types of equilibrium, and cavity theories are discussed in detail. Practical aspects and dosimetric perturbation effects for detectors are also discussed and an introduction to micro- and internal dosimetry is given.
Both courses include compulsory laboratory work.
