My research focuses on cognitive and brain aging.
My research investigates mechanisms behind individual differences in cognitive aging, specifically in our ability for long-term memory. In other words, why do some individuals maintain a high memory ability into old age while others gradually lose it? To better understand such differences I study brain structure and function, biological markers, differences in lifestyle and living conditions, as well as cognitive ability differences in early life. My research is mainly conducted in the context of the longitudinal Betula study, but I also collaborate with a European consortium, Lifebrain, to study these questions. I am affiliated to Umeå center for Functional Brain Imaging, UFBI.
My teaching comprises various topics in cognitive neuroscience, cognitive science and psychology on both basic and advanced levels. In addition, I supervise student projects and theses.
