Workshops, labs and lockers

At UID, all workshops and labs are accessible to enrolled students 24/7, though some require specific training.

4D labs and workshops

These include facilities for woodworking, metalworking, clay studio, 3D printing, milling, and laser cutting. Staff are available during office hours for support and teaching. Plan your interactions with staff as they may be scheduled for teaching. After basic training, students can access equipment they are cleared for, following safety rules: never use untrained machines, never work alone, always wear protective gear, and log materials in the DOLF system.

Interaction lab

Access is granted after introductory training. Contact Rickard Åström for more information.

Photo studio

Provides backdrops and lighting for still photography. Book through Oscar Björk.

Computer labs

UID has three computer labs: Top PC, Green PC, and Blue PC labs. Students can access these labs when not in use for scheduled education. Individual bookings are not allowed.

Lockers (workshop)

Full-time UID students are entitled to one material cabinet/workshop locker, assigned by the house technician. Only one locker per student is allowed. Additional changing room lockers can be used upon agreement with the house technician.

Materials cannot be left in lockers during internships or leaves longer than a term. Unapproved locked lockers will be emptied. Graduating students must clear their lockers before summer. Returning students may store materials over summer with approval.

Locker rules:

  • Provide your own lock.
  • No hazardous chemicals allowed.
  • Empty lockers if suspending studies or during internships.
  • Clean lockers before the end of spring term unless otherwise approved.
  • Unapproved locked lockers will be emptied, and a fine will be charged.
