Fear of Public Speaking

Feeling nervous about speaking in front of others is one of the most common types of anxiety. Many university courses include oral exams or presentations, which can make this a real challenge, but there is effective help available.

What is fear of public speaking?

It’s completely normal to feel nervous before an oral exam or when speaking in front of a group. A bit of tension can even help you focus. But if the anxiety becomes too strong, it can start to feel overwhelming. You might struggle to find the right words, your heart may race, your body might shake or sweat, and it can feel hard to breathe. This can lead to avoiding exams or group discussions, and maybe even thoughts of dropping out of your studies.
