Contents
The course is a continuation of the courses Artistic work A, B, C and D given in term 1, 2, 3 and 4. The course is based on the student's own individual artistic design work, the presentation of this and the choices that control this process. Within the course, the student gets continued support in the form of individual tutoring in order to further develop and formulate his/ her own problems, ideas and concepts and express them in his/ her artistic design work. The choices and considerations that govern these processes are emphasized. Furthermore, the student has the possiblility to relate to his/ her own and fellow students' development, problems, working methods and approaches. Extension of the design work for the Fine Art theory and history is emphasized.
During the course, the student choose to participate in at least one of the workshops offered in the education with the meeting of various forms of expression, artistry and artistic approach. The examination work during the following term is introduced and the requirements of this are presented and discussed, as well as forming the starting point for students to prepare and submit a preliminary plan for their examination work.
Expected learning outcomes
After completing the course the student should be able to
- report additional skills to independently plan, create, realize and express his/ her own ideas
- demonstrate a greater ability to verbally describe, reflect and self-critically discuss his/ her own artistic design work
- demonstrate a greater ability to review, orally discuss and critically reflect on the fellow students' artistic design work, as well as
- present and discuss an oral and / or written plan for the thesis.
Required Knowledge
A prerequisite for the course is that all courses from the first two years of studies are completed and approved, alternatively if you apply to later part of the programme or as an exchange student; you have completed corresponding courses (120 ECTS) from another recognised school of Fine Arts and your work samples that you applied with are approved. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6.
Form of instruction
The course is conducted in the form of individual work and tutoring in the studios and workshops, as well as in studio talks and seminars throughout the student group. In the initial seminars the expected work during the course is presented and each of the students present oral and / or written his/ her own planned artistic design work. During the course the student will work on a preliminary plan of his/ her examination work which in oral and / or written form is presented within the briefing seminar that concludes the term.
During the course, the student is entitled to have at least three individual tutoring talks and getting his/ her own planned and conducted design work presented and discussed in at least three seminars. The student must also actively participate in the seminars where the fellow students' design works are presented. During the course, the student participates in at least one selected workshop and implements there under supervision prescribed artistic design tasks. Some written material will be distributed in the course.
The language of instruction is largely English but if all students in the course, as well as the teacher holding the course, are Swedish-speaking, the language of instruction can be Swedish.
Examination modes
The course is examined continuously at special seminars in which the student's own artistic work and presentation of it is assessed. Moreover, the student's own critical examination and reflection towards his/ her fellow students' artistic work is assessed.
Grading system: Pass or Fail.
