Basic statistical concepts. Micro-canonical, canonical and grand canonical ensembles. The semi-classical approach to statistical thermodynamics. Entropy, chemical potential and diffusive equilibrium. Internal degrees of freedom. Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics. The low and the high temperature limits. The Sommerfeld expansion. Black-body radiation and Bose-Einstein condensation. Chemical reactions and the law of mass action.

Thermodynamics, or equivalent. Quantum Mechanics 1, or equivalent.
