Contents

The objective of the course is that the student shall obtain knowledge and understanding of the various aspects risk assessment processes of environmental pollutants. Risk assessment of chemicals is a challenge for experts within a wide range of research disciplines. Internationally, methods for risk assessment are being harmonized and have a great impact on activities in research, regulatory agencies, and industry. The course reflects all significant facets within the area, such as sources and emissions of pollutants, partitioning and fate in the environment, human- and ecotoxicology, and various modeling methods of chemical and biological properties. In addition, principles and methods for risk assessment in relation to regulatory aspects are introduced.

Required Knowledge

Chemistry 60 credits of which Fundamentals in Environmental Chemistry (15 ECTS, 5KE044) and Measurements and Modeling of Environmental Pollutants (15 ECTS, 5KE046), or the equivalent. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English A (IELTS (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 5.5 and no individual score below 5.0. TOEFL PBT (Paper-based Test) with a minimum total score of 530 and a minimum TWE score of 4. TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) with a minimum total score of 72 and a minimum score of 17 on the Writing Section). Where the language of instruction is Swedish, applicants must prove proficiency in Swedish to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies.
