Contents

The course gives extended knowledge in the field of organic chemistry. The course is lab oriented and the lab section intend to give the student an understanding of advanced synthetic methods, for instance the manipulation of highly reactive reagents in an inert atmosphere. The student will furthermore learn how to find relevant information in the primary literature in order to independently be able to plan and perform multistep synthesis. Modern spectroscopic methods are used to confirm the outcome of the synthetic sequences. Lectures complement the course literature in areas such as retrosynthesis, asymmetric synthesis and spectroscopic methods.

Required Knowledge

Univ.: Bioorganic Chemistry (5KE010 or 5KE011, 15 hp), or the equivalent. English proficiency equivalent to IELTS Academic Training –minimum score 5.0 with no individual score below 4.5 (tests taken before January 2005 not admissible) or TOEFL – minimum score 500 on paper based test and not below 4.0 on the TWE, Alternatively 173 on computer based test with iBT61 is also required as well as basic entrance requirements for higher studies in Swedish language proficiency if the course is taught in Swedish.
