International Business and Economics Programme, 180 credits

Degree

After completing the program, the student may, on application, obtain a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics in accordance with local degree description approved by the Vice-Chancellor (see Umeå University's website). Main field of study: Business Administration or Economics.

Transfer of Credits

A student who considers himself to have knowledge from previous relevant studies or professional experience that may correspond to a course or part of a course in the program, can apply for transfer of Credits. A granted transfer of credits means that the student does not have to read the part or parts of the education that the decision covers. General

The program consists of compulsory courses and elective or optional courses. Compulsory courses are listed under the heading Programme Structure. Compulsory courses are the courses that all students in the program normally study. Students who follow the study program are guaranteed a seat on all compulsory courses given that the eligibility requirements for the current course are met. Eligibility requirements are stated in the respective course syllabus.

Elective courses are a selection of courses that Umeå University offers within the program framework which the student choose from. The program students are guaranteed a place on one of these courses given that the eligibility requirements for the current courses are met. Eligibility requirements are stated in the respective course syllabus. The choice of elective courses is made in consultation with the program advisor. Optional courses within the program are applied for in open competition. Optional courses can be taken at Umeå University or other higher education institutions in Sweden or abroad. The choice of optional courses is made in consultation with the program advisor.

The courses are provided in the order specified under the heading Programme structure. However, the order of the courses may change. Information on how the individual courses is structured can be found in the various course syllabus. The whole program is given in English.

Specialization
During the first three semesters, students take 90 credits of introductory courses in of Business Administration (30 credits), Economics (30 credits), Statistics (22.5 credits), and Law (7.5 credits). After this, the students choose either Business Administration or Economics as the main field of study.

Internship
Internship is an optional course in the program. Students have the opportunity to do an internship during half a semester (15 credits). The student will arrange the internship position on his/her own in consultation with internship course responsible. The internship must be relevant to the student's education.

Degree project / Independent work
For the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics, the student must, within the framework of the course requirements, have completed an independent project (degree project) of at least 15 credits in the main field of study. The degree project is written in English.
