Conference, course, or workshop fees (including social events such as conference dinners); travel expenses; accommodation costs.
The call has a maximum amount set by the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. Information about the maximum amount will be published on this webpage in due course.
When can you apply?
Applications can be submitted at any time. Decisions are normally communicated within two weeks.
Who can apply?
PhD students and postdocs affiliated* with one of the following institutions:
• Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, Umeå University
• Department of Statistics, Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics, Umeå University
*Affiliated refers to formal employment, a stipend agreement, or another equivalent formal arrangement with one of the institutions. Informal collaborations do not qualify.
Other employment categories
If a financial situation arises that enables Lennart Bondesson Foundation to consider applications from additional employment categories, further information will be provided.
Restrictions and expectations
• The activity must relate to mathematics, mathematical statistics, or statistics.
• Applicants with access to time-limited external funding (funding connected to the PhD or postdoctoral project) must use such funding as the primary source. You may only apply for costs not covered by such funding.
• Applicants are expected to seek external funding from other sources where relevant. If no external application has been made, this must be justified.
• Applicants are encouraged to present their research during the funded activity, if possible.
• Environmentally friendly travel alternatives are encouraged.
How are grants administered?
All approved expenses must be paid directly by the Lennart Bondesson Foundation administrator. Payments made by applicants or third parties will not be reimbursed, and no retroactive reimbursement will be made under any circumstances.
Assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed based on the relevance of the planned activity to the applicant’s research and its potential to strengthen academic development and international connections. Consideration will also be given to efforts to secure other funding. Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis; with priority given to those submitted earlier.

What information do you need to provide in your application?
When submitting your application, you will be asked to provide the following information:
Type of activity and title, including the name of the conference, course, workshop, or similar event.
Dates and location of the activity.
Organizer and a link to the activity website (if available).
A brief description of the purpose of your participation and how the activity relates to your research.
Information on whether you will present during the activity.
Total budget for your participation, and a breakdown of approximate costs for travel, accommodation, and conference/course/workshop fees.
Information about your current funding situation and whether you have applied for funding from other sources for the same activity.
Information on whether you intend to use environmentally friendly travel options.
