Call B – Costs for Visits by Guest Lecturers and Guest Researchers

What can you apply for?
Costs associated with visits by guest lecturers and guest researchers, such as travel expenses, accommodation costs, etc.
If the financial situation allows, applicants may also apply for temporary employment costs.
The call has a maximum amount set by the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. Information about the maximum amount will be published on this webpage in due course.
When can you apply?
The call is open twice a year, in April and in October. Decisions are typically communicated within four weeks.
Who can apply?
Researchers affiliated* with one of the following eligible workplaces:
• Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, Umeå University
• Department of Statistics, Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics, Umeå University
*Affiliated refers to formal employment, a stipend agreement, or another equivalent formal arrangement with one of the institutions. Informal collaborations do not qualify.
Restrictions and expectations
• The visit must include academic activities that contribute to the teaching and research environments at the eligible workplaces, such as (but not limited to):
– teaching activities, including guest lectures or full courses,
– presentations, seminars, or similar events open to staff,
– research-focused seminars or discussions for specific research groups.
• Applicants are encouraged to seek additional external funding where applicable.
How are grants administered?
All approved expenses must be paid directly by the Lennart Bondesson Foundation administrator. Payments made by applicants or third parties will not be reimbursed, and no retroactive reimbursement will be made under any circumstances.
Assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed with regard to the academic value of the proposed visit and its expected contribution to the teaching and/or research environments. Priority will be given to visits that include broad academic activities and promote continued collaboration.

What information do you need to provide in your application?
When submitting your application, you will be asked to provide the following information:
Guest information, including name and affiliation.
Information about the visit, including the dates, the purpose of the visit, how it relates to your research and/or teaching environment, as well as the academic activities planned during the visit.
Budget for the visit, with amounts provided in SEK. Specify approximate costs for travel, accommodation, temporary employment, and any other relevant cost categories, if applicable.
Funding situation, including information on whether you have applied for funding from other sources. If so, state which sources; if not, explain why it was not possible or relevant in this case.
