Call C – Co-funding of Conferences, Research Schools, Workshops, or Similar Events and Activities

What can you apply for?
Venues and equipment, shared meals, travel and accommodation for invited speakers, remuneration for organizers, and similar costs associated with such events.
When can you apply?
The call is open once per year, in April. Decisions are normally communicated within four weeks. Applications should be submitted at least five months before the planned activity. Applications can be submitted up to three years in advance.
Who can apply?
Researchers affiliated* with one of the following eligible workplaces:
• Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, Umeå University
• Department of Statistics, Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics, Umeå University
*Affiliated refers to formal employment, a stipend agreement, or another equivalent formal arrangement with one of the institutions. Informal collaborations do not qualify.
Restrictions and expectations
• The activity must contribute meaningfully to the research environment at the eligible workplaces.
• For total costs below SEK 50,000, the foundation may cover up to 100%. For additional costs exceeding SEK 50,000, the maximum co-funding rate is 50%.
• Applicants are encouraged to seek external funding.
• The activity should normally be organized by one of the eligible workplaces. Exceptions may be considered with written justification.
How are grants administered?
All approved expenses must be paid directly by the Lennart Bondesson Foundation administrator. Payments made by applicants or third parties will not be reimbursed, and no retroactive reimbursement will be made under any circumstances.
Assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed based on the scientific value of the planned activity, its potential to attract participants, and its contribution to the visibility of Umeå as a research environment. Priority will be given to activities that strengthen collaboration.

What information do you need to provide in your application?
When submitting your application, you will be asked to provide the following information:
Information about the event, including the title, type and dates, location, and the main organizer.
Description of the planned activity, focusing on its scientific value, its ability to attract participants, its contribution to Umeå’s visibility as a research environment, and how the activity is expected to strengthen collaboration.
Budget for the activity, with amounts provided in SEK, including costs for venues and equipment, shared meals, travel and accommodation for invited speakers, remuneration for organizers, and other relevant cost categories.
Upload of the detailed budget.
Funding situation, including information on whether you have applied for funding from other sources for this activity. If so, state which sources and the expected decision date; if not, explain why it was not relevant in this case.
