Entry Requirements

A Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, 180 credits) from an internationally recognised university with a major in Business Administration. Special requirements: 75 credits in Business Administration, at Basic level (A-level) and Intermediate level (B-level) a minimum of 60 credits in Management, Marketing, Accounting and Finance or the equivalent including at least 7,5 credits in Finance courses. At the Bachelor level (C-level), a minimum of 15 credits in Business Administration. Statistics or similar 7,5 credits. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6. If you are still working towards your undergraduate degree, you need to include with your application a document from your current University, outlining when you are expected to graduate as well as a course outline for the last semester.

Degree

After completed study programme, a student who has applied for a degree certificate can obtain a Degree of Master of Science (60 credits) according to the local qualification descriptor established by the Vice-Chancellor (see Umeå University's web site). The Swedish translation of Degree of Master of Science is, Ekonomie magisterexamen. The degree is awarded in the main field of Business Administration with a specialisation in Finance.

Description of the education for current education cycle

Transfer of Credits

Student who considers themselves to possess knowledge from previous relevant studies or professional or vocational experience that can be comparable to a course or part of a course in the study programme, can apply for transfer of credits. Approved transfer of credits means that the student does not need to take the or those parts of the education that the decision covers. General

The programme only starts in the fall semester and run as full-time studies.

Compulsory courses are the courses that all students within the program normally study. A student who follows the programme is guaranteed a seat on all compulsory courses, provided that the eligibility requirements for the current course are met. Eligibility requirements are stated in the respective course syllabus.

Elective courses are a selection of courses that Umeå University offers within the program framework which the student choose from. The program students are guaranteed a place on one of these courses given that the eligibility requirements for the current courses are met. Eligibility requirements are stated in the respective course syllabus. The choice of elective courses is made in consultation with the program advisor. Optional courses within the program are applied for in open competition.

Optional courses can be taken at Umeå University or other higher education institutions in Sweden or abroad. The choice of optional courses is made in consultation with the program advisor.

The courses included in the study programme are listed in chronological order under the headline "Study plan". However, the order of the courses may change.

Study periods
The programme is for two years and consists of four semesters, each approximately 20 weeks.

Teaching and forms of learning
The programme is given in English. 

Thesis/independent work
For a Master of Science Degree 60 hp the student must have completed a thesis worth at least 15 credits in Business Administration.

For a two year (120 credits) Master of Science Degree the student must have completed thesis work worth 30 credits in Business Administration.
