Contents

The course gives an introductory orientation about artistic research and processes in contemporary art, focusing on actual and therefore highly contemporary currents of international research methods within the art world.

Expected learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student shall:

  • show knowledge and understanding of current artistic research and processes in contemporary art, as well as
  • show knowledge and understanding of how such artistic research can be documented and presented.
  • be able to identify different paths and possibilities for her/his own artistic research
  • be able to critically analyze the own artistic research process and those of their peers.

Required Knowledge

Participation in the course requires that the student is admitted to the Master's programme in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå University.

Form of instruction

The teaching consists of lectures, seminars and practical exercises with individual and collective assignments.

Teaching is in English.

Examination modes

The course is continuously examined in seminars where individual and collective assignments and findings are presented. For students who have not been approved at the regular exam opportunity, a further examination opportunity will be arranged within three months as well as a sampling test within one year.

Grades are Pass or Fail.

Language of instruction is English.
 
Credits are individually tested according to Umeå University's credit rating system.
