Contents

The course deals with the historiography of western society. Its focus is on how history as a subject has developed and changed over time. Different ways of explaining the past will be discussed as well as how historians from different historical traditions have argued.

Expected learning outcomes

- the student will have achieved knowledge about the development of history as a subject - the student will be able to recognize different views of history - the student will have achieved knowledge about the roots of modern day historiography

Required Knowledge

English proficiency equivalent to IELTS Academic Training –minimum score 5.0 with no individual score below 4.5 (Tests taken before January 2005 not admissible or TOEFL – minimum score 500 on paper based test and not below 4.0 on the TWE, Alternatively 173 on computer based test with iBT61 is also required as well as basic entrance requirements for higher studies in Swedish language proficiency if the course is taught in Swedish.

Examination modes

Examination will include written reports and individual essays. The grade is an overall assessment of the performance at the various examinations and is awarded first when all of the compulsory modules are passed. Students who do not pass at the time of the normal written examination will be offered an opportunity to sit a further examination. When a student has failed an examination on two occations, he or she has a right to have another examiner. A written request should be handed to the Faculty Board. ACADEMIC CREDIT TRANSFER Academic credit transfers are reviewed individually.
