Required Knowledge

Basic eligibility. Exception from demands on Swedish will be granted if the course is given in English.

Form of instruction

The teaching is organized through lectures, seminars, group exercises and tutorials. The teaching activities may, as a whole or partly, be carried out with support from information and communication technology (ICT), which demands specific technical equipment and skills. Compulsory modules are; outdoor activity, scheduled leadership task, adapted physical activity and group training task. The course will be given in English.

Examination modes

The student is examined through written, oral and practical elements. Examination will be made both continuously through the course and at the end of the course. The course is graded using three grades: Pass with distinction, Pass and Fail.

The course is examined through the following forms of examination:
- Outdoor activity with individual reflection. Grades: Fail or Pass
- Individual leadership task with reflection. Grades: Fail, Pass or Pass with distinction
- Compulsory seminar in adapted physical activity. Grades: Fail or Pass
- Group training task with individual reflection. Grades: Fail, Pass or Pass with distinction

To pass the course the student has to earn the grade pass on all the above examinations. To pass the course with distinction the student have to earn the grade “pass with distinction” on the individual leadership task as well as on the group training task, and have earned the grade “pass” on all the other forms of examination. The course work is examined at an ordinary examination and a scheduled re-sit examination in close connection to the course. In general, a third examination opportunity is offered in the beginning of the next autumn semester. Participation in the third re-sit requires a notification to the study counselor. Students who receive the grade Fail at the third examination are requested to assign to the examinations the next time the course is given. Re-examinations based on the same curriculum are guaranteed within two years after the first course registration. A student has the right to change examiner for a course based on a written request to the head of department after two failures in the same course or part of a course.

Transfer of credits

Students have the right to request that previous studies, or equivalent knowledge and skills acquired in a professional, work-related capacity, be validated and transferred into credits on an equivalent course or programme at Umeå University.  Applications for credit transfer should be addressed to Student Services/Degree Evaluation Office.
