Contents

The course aim is to increase the student’s knowledge and insight of leadership. The course focuses on different theoretical perspectives on leadership and leader development and scrutinizes leadership practices by using group training activities and team- and individual sports in different age groups. The relationship between the individual and the group development is also examined within the context of out door education. Finally, disability and ability is discussed from a critical viewpoint in order to increase the student’s knowledge and experience of adapted physical activates and health promotion.

Expected learning outcomes

After the course the students should be able to: - critically examine common conceptions of leadership and leader development according to sport, health promotion and physical activity on individual- and group level - plan, lead and evaluate adapted physical activities and health promotion for participants with disabilities - understand how outdoor life related activities can be applied to increase the knowledge of various group processes. - understand how different theoretical approaches of leadership contributes in different practical consequences - understand how different theoretical perspectives shape different understandings of for instance, age, gender, ethnicity and social class

Form of instruction

The teaching is normally organized through lectures, seminars, group exercises and tutorials. The teaching activities may, as a whole or partly, be carried out with support from information and communication technology (ICT), which demands specific technical equipments and skills. There may be compulsory modules. The course will be given in English.

Examination modes

The course examinations may be written or oral. The examination may be continual or final. The course is graded using three grades: Pass with distinction, Pass and Fail. The course work is examined at an ordinary examination and a scheduled re-sit examination in close connection to the course. In general, a third examination opportunity is offered in the beginning of the next autumn semester. Participation in the third re-sit requires a notification to the study counsellor. Students who receive the grade Fail at the third examination are requested to assign to the examinations the next time the course is given. Re-examinations based on the same curriculum are guaranteed within two years after the first course registration. A student has the right to change examiner for a course based on a written request to the head of department after two failures in the same course or part of a course. ACADEMIC CREDIT TRANSFER The Director of Studies decides on the accreditation of prior learning based on a student’s written request. The request shall indicate the course that the accreditation will apply to. The request shall be accompanied by certified copies of course certificates including information about the institution delivering the course, time for the course, subject area, academic level, credits and examination results. Course curricula, literature lists, and if applicable copies of project reports or thesis work shall be attached.
