The course aims to develop skills and knowledge in spatial quantitative and qualitative methods and analyses. The first part of the course provides in-depth knowledge in quantitative geographical methods and analysis. The course covers regression and cluster analysis with a spatial perspective. The spatial analysis perspective also includes geographical information data management, as well as visualization and analysis of spatial dynamics and regional data in GIS. Both descriptive and analytical quantitative approaches are dealt with. The second part of the course provides in-depth knowledge in qualitative methods. Departing from contemporary research in human geography, a number of qualitative traditions are introduced, where focus is on how qualitative methods are applied within planning and development work. The course deals with the different steps of the research process; from research design, gathering of empirical material to analysis and writing.
