Contents
In the second of two courses on education and information- and communication technology (ICT), students are expected to use knowledge, skills and abilities in an empirical study about workplace learning and ICT. The purpose of conducting this study is to gain insight in how ICT is used in learning processes at work and how current research relate to practice. The student will also be given opportunity to develop public speaking abilities with particular focus on delivering information to an audience outside the expert field. In addition, the students will report their findings in a scientific report, where they will merge the empirical study with theory on Workplace learning and ICT.
Expected learning outcomes
After the course students should have acquired competence to
Knowledge and understanding
show basic understanding of scientific analysis and handling of data
demonstrate familiarity with previous research relevant to the chosen empirical subject
Skills and ability
conduct a smaller empirical study of educational processes and ICT in a chosen work environment
communicate knowledge of the course content to outside groups with limited knowledge of the subject
identify and analyse an organisation’s educational processes and the use of ICT through collecting empirical data
Values and attitudes
reflect on and discuss possibilities and conditions for communication of knowledge on ICT and educational processes to different outside group
Required Knowledge
General qualifications for university studies. Final stages of Education and ICT in the workplace I.
Form of instruction
Instruction is given in the form of lectures, seminars, group exercises and tutorials. The course is given as campus course with the support of information and communication technology.
Examination modes
The expected learning outcomes that concern basic understanding of scientific analysis and handling of data is assessed in seminars (Fail/Pass). The students’ abilities to communicate knowledge of the course content to outside groups with limited knowledge of the subject, as well as the ability to reflect on and discuss possibilities and conditions for communication of knowledge on ICT and educational processes to different outside groups, are also assessed in seminars (Fail/Pass). The expected learning outcomes concerning familiarity with previous research relevant to the chosen empirical subject, the ability to conduct a smaller empirical study of educational processes and ICT in a chosen work environment, and to identify and analyse an organisation’s educational processes and the use of ICT through collecting empirical data, are all assessed through a written assignment in the form of a report of an empirical study (Fail/Pass/Pass with distinction).
To get a pass all examining tasks must be approved. To get a Pass with distinction the written assignment must in addition be graded as VG (pass with distinction). The final grades are U (Fail), G (Pass) and VG (Pass with distinction).
A student who has not been approved at an ordinary examination shall be offered a scheduled re-sit examination in close connection to the course (within two months). A third examination opportunity is offered within a year from the ordinary examination.
If examinations or compulsory sessions cannot be repeated in accordance with current rules for re-examination, they may be replaced by other forms of assignments. The extent and content of such an assignment shall be in proportion to the missing compulsory sessions. A student who has failed two different assignments in a course or a part of a course is entitled to get a new examiner, if not exceptional reasons oppose this (HF 6 chap 11b §). In any such case the student must get in contact with the Director of Studies at the department.
Students who receive the grade “Fail” at the third examination are requested to assign to the examinations the next time the course is given. Re-examinations based on the same curriculum are guaranteed within two years after the first course registration.
ACADEMIC CREDIT TRANSFER Earlier studies that correspond to the course contents may require credit transfer. The review is individual. For more information, contact the Study Counselor.
