Contents
Studies based on administrative registers and other sources of microdata, i.e. data at the individual level, is nowadays common in the social and the medical sciences. Register data is population based and new challenges are posed to statisticians on how to perform inference with such large sets of information. This course will cover the following issues:
- Registers: measurements and quality;
- Causality and inference in observational studies;
- Inference with population wide databases;
- Registers, population based studies and surveys: combining different sources of data.
Expected learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Have knowledge about the quality issues related to the construction of registers;
- Be able to perform evaluation studies based on registers (possibly in combination with other sources of microdata).
Required Knowledge
At least 75 academic credits in statistics and/or mathematical statistics, or equivalent. English course B at Swedish gymnasium or equivalent.
Form of instruction
To a great extent, the course is based on the students own work with the course literature and active participation in the lectures, seminars and computer assignments.
Examination modes
The grading system consists of the three grades; Fail, Pass and Pass with distinction. The examination is based on oral and written presentations, performed in groups or individually.
