Contents
The course is focused on a specific architectural and urban research theme within which the students are encouraged to develop their own position and agenda. The students will formulate and develop a strategic, research-based approach to the generation of urban and architectural design strategies. The course is studio based. Specific course information, themes, design requirements and submission requirements are adjusted and determined for each school year by the examiner.
The course is divided into three modules: 1. Part 1 8hp 2. Part 2 8hp 3. Portfolio 4hp
Expected learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
make assessments of social, ethical and artistic issues and situations within the field of architecture and urban design.
apply appropriate theoretical and artistic concepts to studio projects with a reflective and critical approach.
formulate issues, solve problems as well as to reflect critically on his or her artistic approach and that of others and precedents in the field of architecture and urban design.
in response to a brief, develop strategies for planning, designing, maintaining and renewing built environments in complex contexts with a holistic approach informed by various demands, in particular social, aesthetic and ethical aspects and the sustainable development required by the community.
present and discuss, evaluate and apply a range of visual, oral and written media and models to test, analyse, critically appraise and explain proposals.
identify the need for further knowledge and development of skills.

The course consists of seminars, tutorials, individual and group project work and workshops.
Examination modes
The first two modules will be graded through presentations in seminars, panels and assignments. The portfolio of synthesis course 1 will in the end of the first term be assessed by a panel and is graded fail or pass. If failed, but considered able to catch up the next term, the student will be given completion assignments that are to be delivered at a deadline (minimum 10 days and maximum 2 months after the result has been announced). If the student is failed again he/she will be given another complementary that must be passed before the synthesis course of the second term can be passed. The grading scheme is pass/fail. To successfully complete the course all compulsory oral, written and practical assignments must be completed and passed. Students, who have not passed the course at the ordinary examination, will be given another examination date. The student has the right to another examiner if he/she has not passed the course or parts of the course after two examinations, if nothing speaks against it (HF 6 chapter. 22§). The request for a new examiner should be made to the director of programme.
