The course is aimed at solving physics problems in electrodynamics, quantum physics, theoretical mechanics and solid state physics by computer calculations. The numerical methods are: Fast Fourier Transform, reduction of a symmetric matrix to tridiagonal form, eigenvalues and eigenvectors to a tridiagonal matrix. Methods to solve ordinary differential equations: Runge Kutta, Leap frog, Richardson extrapolation, Bulirsch-Stoer, Predictor-Corrector. Two-point boundary value problems.

Required Knowledge

Analytical Mechanics, or equivalent. Foundations of Electromagnetics, or equivalent. Wave Physics, or equivalent. First courses in numerical methods and in programming techniques.
