Norm Criticism and Design as a Practice of Hope - Feminist Strategies in an Era of Posthuman Convergence
Welcome to a seminar where we explore how norm critique and design can function as feminist strategies to shape hope in an era marked by ecological and social crises, technological acceleration and social fragmentation.
Drawing on Rosi Braidotti's concept posthuman convergence and Ewa Giraud's ethics of exclusion, we discuss how norm critique and design research can contribute to new conceptions of the relationship between humans, technology and the environment beyond anthropocentric grounds. We also exlpore how hope can be understood not as an emotion, but as a critical strategy: a situated, political and collective tool for imagining and shaping alternative futures.
The seminar is aimed at researchers, practitioners and students in design, gender studies, sustainability and critical theory – and to anyone interested in how we can think and create beyond the given.
Anna Croon is a senior lecturer (docent) in Informatics, Umeå University. Among her research interests are transdisciplinary studies of digital transformation, Feminist Technoscience, Human-Computer Interaction, Design Theory, Norm Critical Design and Critical Theories of Technology.
