PsyToolkit, an online platform for online surveys and online cognitive experiments
The Profile Group for Cognition has invited Professor Gijsbert Stoet at the University of Essex, England, to talk about his software package Psytoolkit for online collection of psychological data.
Summary PsyToolkit allows students and researchers to set up their own online surveys (comparable to Google Forms or Qualtrix, etc) as well as set up their own online cognitive experiments, such as Stroop. The platform can be used “for free” by anyone via https://www.psytoolkit.org/
The main advantages of PsyToolkit over other online data collection platforms are as follows. 1) PsyToolkit is a “one-stop-shop” which means you do not need any other software or server to get involved. You can do everything from the PsyToolkit website. 2) It is free to register and use, and there are pretty much no limits on how long and intensely you want to use it, it is simply free (donations welcome). 3) It is reliable in all respects, including timing, as independently established (e.g., here). 4) It comes with extensive documentation and libraries of ready to use psychometric scales and/or experiments. 5) It comes with a fully interactive website for which you can register with password and then you can code whatever experiment or survey you want. This works excellently with sites such as Prolific as well. Over the years, PsyToolkit has been popular and hundreds of studies have been published using it.
