Time Tuesday 13 September, 2022 at 15:30 - 16:30
Place Bergasalen, NUS

Professor William F Young Jr. from the Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine lectures on the captivating history of cortisone. The first treatment with cortisone was given at the Mayo Clinic in United States in 1948 to a patient with rheumatoid arthritis, with dramatic effects as a result.

Two years later, Hench, Kendall and Reichstein were awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery of the hormone including the biological effects. Young is, among other things, former president of the Endocrine Society and a brilliant lecturer. In this lecture, which is the first in a lecture series from Norrland University Hospital, he gives the complete story of the cortisone's path from test tubes to treatment. The lecture will be held in English.

You will find a link to the online transmission on regionvasterbotten.se/nusföreläser during the day before the lecture
