Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) Facility at the Department of Molecular Biology

This facility counts with a Bruker multimode AFM with the fully automatized ScanAsyst system, which requires minimal supervision and zero parameter setting during operations. The system is currently calibrated to observe objects in the micrometer range with subnanometric resolution. The small vertical range of 20 μm is purposely designed for small cells and for molecular complexes including single proteins and DNA.

Compared to other imaging techniques it has the advantage that it does not requires fixation and sample preparation is minimal. Imaging in liquid under native conditions is also possible.

Team leader and Facility manager:
David A. Cisneros, Dr. rer nat.
