Marie Peters’ doctoral project focuses on identifying and characterizing cellular proteins involved in the flavivirus life cycle, in particular proteins involved in tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) infection, with the aim of potentially identifying targets for antiviral therapy. One of the group of proteins she is currently working on characterizing during infection is the Nucleoporins. To achieve this she uses a combination of biochemical and molecular biology techniques to look and understand different aspects of this proteins during flavivirus infection.

Marie did her bachelor’s degree in molecular life science at the University of Lübeck where she developed and interest in molecular techniques. Following this she moved to Sweden where she completed her master's degree in molecular biology at Umeå University. During her time in Umeå she discovered her passion for the field of virology, deciding to stay in Umeå to pursue a PhD degree in virology in Anna Överby lab.
