Checklist for the start of your studies
Before the first day of your education, you need to take some important steps.
1.You have recieved your Notification of Selection
When you have recieved your Notification of Selection results at Universityadmissions.se, the next thing to do is to register on the course. Read more about how to do that under "2. Register on the course".
2.Activate your user account and MFA
As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your UMU-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.
With your user account you can:
- register for courses
- access the internet in computer labs and the university's wireless network
- submit assignments and verify your study results
- access your student e-mail
If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.
Exchange student or tuition fee paying student
If you are an exchange student or tuition fee paying student, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account.
Install MFA for a more secure login
To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.

4.Course start
2026-06-08
18:00
Remember! To start the course, you must first register. In this course, we will be using the learning platform Canvas (www.canvas.umu.se/). Log in there with your Umu-id as soon as possible and familiarize yourself with the site and the course information available there.
Teaching on this course is conducted entirely via the learning platform Canvas (www.canvas.umu.se). On the platform, you will find everything you need for the course, such as the course overview, instructions for exercises, examination assignments, reminders, and messages from the teacher. Mandatory assignments to be completed during the course are also published on the learning platform.
The course has no scheduled lectures, seminars, or similar. It offers full flexibility for self-paced study at times of your choosing; however, at least the suggested weekly pace should be maintained to best utilize the tutoring sessions and to arrive well-prepared for the examination assignments. Examination assignments must be submitted at fixed times with a deadline. Opportunities for re-examination/completion are offered during the course.
The course does not include any mandatory seminars or conversations conducted at a specific time. However, voluntary "tutoring sessions" are offered via Zoom, which students can use to ask questions and discuss course content orally. Tutoring sessions are recorded, and students who are not present can take part in the questions and answers. Further information regarding tutoring sessions is published on the learning platform.
The course begins with a voluntary introductory meeting via Zoom (which will be recorded for those who choose not to attend). For those who wish to attend, the introductory meeting is scheduled for June 8th at 16:00. The Zoom link and further information regarding the introductory meeting will be published on Canvas before the course starts.
