Checklist for the start of your studies

Before the first day of your education, you need to take some important steps.

1.Reply to your offer

If you have been admitted to a course or programme, or been placed on a waiting list, you must reply to your first admissions notification to keep your place. If you don't wish to keep your place, you should decline your offer. In doing so, you free up your place to someone who is on the waiting list. You reply to your offer by logging in to your account at Universityadmissions.se by 20 july 2026.

2.Activate your user account and MFA

As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your UMU-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

With your user account you can:

  • register for courses
  • access the internet in computer labs and the university's wireless network
  • submit assignments and verify your study results
  • access your student e-mail

If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Exchange student or tuition fee paying student

If you are an exchange student or tuition fee paying student, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account.

Install MFA for a more secure login

To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.

Schedule Go to the schedule for HT2026

The schedule is preliminary until four weeks before the course starts

Most of your studies in this course will take place remotely. The course is offered at a 50% study pace, which corresponds to approximately 20 hours of study per week. Throughout the course, you can expect to participate in daytime online activities, including seminars, workshops, tutorials, and lectures. You will collaborate with fellow students on assignments and presentations and provide peer feedback on each other's work. The course may also use a flipped-classroom approach, where you review course materials in advance and then meet online for discussion and problem-solving. This format offers flexibility while supporting active engagement and deeper learning.

Online meetings, most often conducted via Zoom, are a central component of the course. To participate effectively, you will need access to a computer that is no more than 4–5 years old, a webcam, and a headset. A reliable internet connection is also required, preferably a stable wireless or wired network connection. Here is a guide to Zoom.

Canvas is the course's digital learning environment, where you will stay in contact with your teachers and fellow students throughout the course. It contains all course-related information and materials, and it also provides opportunities to communicate and collaborate with instructors and classmates.

You can log in to Canvas after activating your UMU ID. Please log in to Canvas at least one week before the course starts. Before the start of the course, you will gain access to the course site, where all course information and learning materials will be available.

On the course site in Canvas, you will find the self-study materials required for the course, such as recorded lectures, study questions, reading guides, and information about any campus-based sessions. Certain scheduled examinations and other course activities may also take place through Canvas.
