From novelty to normality
From novelty to normality re-imagines how clinicians orchestrate their working environment. Rather than asking them to abandon established habits, particularly their high-performance reliance on physical paper, the project explores how AI can augment existing behaviours through a new interface paradigm. It speculates on an AI that calmly perceives the surrounding physical environment and its metadata, introducing a modular tangible-digital toolkit. Everyday paper annotations become fluid computational intent, bridging the gap between rigid electronic health records and the tactile reality of clinical practice. Ultimately, the thesis proposes a respectful and adaptive interface that embeds advanced intelligence into medical organisations not as disruptive novelty, but as a calm, taken-for-granted normality.
