Home-based cancer treatment

Degree Project 2026

Home-based cancer treatment is becoming increasingly common and creates new opportunities for patients to maintain a sense of freedom and normality during treatment. At the same time, several challenges remain regarding the equipment currently used for chemotherapy treatment with portable infusion pumps. The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis in industrial design was to develop a design proposal that improves the user experience for cancer patients undergoing treatment at home.

The project

The project was carried out in collaboration with Region Västerbotten and Region Skåne and was based on the Double Diamond design process. Through research, product testing, interviews with patients and healthcare professionals, and concept development, problems and user needs connected to existing equipment were identified. The focus was to create a solution that is practical, discreet, comfortable, and functional while still meeting hygiene and medical requirements.

Final result

The final result was Movena – a flexible and portable bag designed for home treatment that enables multiple carrying options and improved tube management. The bag also includes integrated storage for accessories and a foldable hook that simplifies use in everyday home environments. The design was developed to support patients’ daily lives and increase opportunities for movement, independence, and quality of life during treatment.
