Postdoctoral scholarship (2 years) within Neuroscience

The Department of Medical and Translational Biology is offering a postdoctoral scholarship within the Laboratory of Neural Repair and Cellular Therapy. The scholarship is full-time for two years, and funded by Kempe-foundation, with access 01-01-2026 (1st of January, 2026) or by agreement.

Departmental specific information

The Department of Medical and Translational Biology conducts research focused on, among other areas, neuroscience, neurobiology, muscle research, experimental diabetes research, and research concerning endocytosis and exocytosis.

Project description

A postdoctoral scholarship-position is now available at the Laboratory for Nerve Repair and Cellular Therapy, which consists of basic scientists and clinical researchers with overarching research interests in regenerative medicine, with a particular focus on spinal cord and peripheral nerve injuries. The projects involve work on various aspects of nerve regeneration and tissue engineering using both in vitro and in vivo model systems. The applicant is expected to contribute to ongoing projects and is encouraged to actively develop new lines of research within the field.

Qualifications

Eligible to apply are individuals with a PhD, and priority will be given to applicants who graduated within three years before the application deadline. Individuals with a background in neuroscience, stem cell biology or tissue engineering are encouraged to apply. Technical expertise in cell culture, basic methods in histology and molecular biology, and in vivo experimental models is essential. Experience of cell therapy or biomaterials applications, and imaging such as MRI or PET/CT following spinal cord or peripheral nerve injury is highly merited. The successful candidate should be proficient in spoken English and have prior experience of writing reports/manuscripts in English.

To qualify as a postdoctoral scholarship holder, the postdoctoral fellow is required to have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled no later than at the time of the decision about scholarship recipient.

Priority should be given to candidates who completed their doctoral degree, according to what is stipulated in the paragraph above, no later than three years prior. If there are special reasons, candidates who completed their doctoral degree before that may also be eligible. Special reasons include absence due to illness, parental leave, appointments of trust in trade union organisations, military service or similar circumstances, as well as clinical practice or other forms of appointment/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Doctoral degree should be within medicine, biomedicine or similar subject

Application
The application should be written in English or Swedish, and attached documents should be in Word or PDF format. The application should be registered via Umeå University’s e-recruitment system Varbi and submitted by the deadline 20251110.
