You may choose to leave all or part of your estate to Umeå University. It is also possible to donate property or other assets. Whatever form your gift takes, you will contribute to new knowledge, innovation and societal development, both in northern Sweden and internationally.

Choose the impact you want to make

When you choose to support Umeå University, you can decide which area will benefit from your gift.

Many donors choose to support areas where the need for new knowledge is particularly great, such as research on climate change, infectious diseases, democracy, forests, economics, medicine, and Arctic and Sámi issues. You may also choose to support culture and public education through activities such as Bildmuseet and Umevatoriet.

If you have a particular interest in another field of research or education, you may specify your own donation purpose. You can also choose to make an unrestricted gift, allowing the University to invest where the needs are greatest.

Whatever you choose, your gift will contribute to knowledge that benefits both people and society.

How it works

Making a will is an important way to ensure that your wishes are respected. If you would like to include Umeå University as the beneficiary of a gift, the University's name and corporate identity number must be stated in the will. You should also describe how you would like the gift to be used by specifying a donation purpose.

To ensure that your will is legally valid, we recommend seeking advice from a solicitor or other qualified professional when preparing it.

Umeå University cannot assist with the drafting of a will itself, but we are happy to answer questions about our donation purposes and the opportunities available to support the University's activities.

When your gift takes effect

When a will comes into effect, Umeå University's Finance Office is responsible for contact with the deceased estate and for managing any assets such as property, securities and similar holdings.

We handle all gifts with great care and with respect for the donor's wishes.
