Sara Lidman has a long relationship with Umeå University. In 1978, Sara was appointed honorary doctor by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and in 1999 she was named professor. Her literary achievements and extensive personal archive form the basis for several exciting research projects.
You have the opportunity to rent one of her two houses for a shorter or longer period.
Applications for 2026 will open in the spring.
In 2001, Sara donated her childhood home to the Lars Färgares gård foundation to provide researchers and staff at Umeå University, authors and writers with an opportunity for recreation and inspiration.
Her literary work has inspired several research projects, including the digitisation of Sara Lidman's personal archive at Umeå University Library. It is now also possible to apply for a writer's residency in her name.
