Residence Sara Lidman

If you are an author or writer, you can apply for a residency at Sara Lidman's childhood home in Missenträsk. The residency is a writing scholarship that includes the opportunity to stay in Missenträsk for one month. Applications for the residency will open in spring 2026.

Umeå University, Region Västerbotten and Skellefteå Municipality are now jointly establishing the Sara Lidman Residency, a writer's scholarship linked to a month-long stay at Sara Lidman's farm in Missenträsk. The aim is to give writers a chance to work in peace and creativity, in accordance with Sara Lidman's wishes.

Writers and journalists who work in the spirit of Sara Lidman are welcome to apply in spring 2026. Both Swedish and foreign writers are encouraged to apply.

Sara Lidman wanted to contribute to a creative working environment

In 2001, Sara Lidman donated her family farm in the village of Missenträsk in Västerbotten to the Lars Färgares gård foundation at Umeå University. Her wish was that the farm would be used by writers, for example, who needed a creative working environment.

The residency's partners

Residens Sara Lidman is a collaboration between Umeå University, Skellefteå Municipality and Region Västerbotten, with Umeå University coordinating the activities. The residency was established on the initiative of Umeå University Vice-Chancellor Tora Holmberg and University Director Hans Wiklund.

The project manager for the activities at Umeå University is Jenny Jarlsdotter Wikström.
