Research at the Department of Odontology

The scientific activity of our department reflects a vast variety of scientific questions, scientific methods and national and international collaborations.

The researchers at the department carry out research in odontology as well as in several related medical conditions and multiple scientific disciplines. The overall objective is to contribute to improved oral health and function and to prevent and treat disease. We study tissue and bacteria in the oral cavity in health and disease and relationships with disease conditions in other parts of the body. We conduct research on diagnosis, causality and progression of disease in the oral mucosa, temporomandibular system as well as dental caries, periodontitis and peri-implantitis. We do also develop and test new biomaterials and clinical treatments, including techniques for the regeneration and reconstruction of the oral tissues.

Our research is multidisciplinary and involves dentists, doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists, engineers, molecular biologists and biomedical assistants. Both clinical research and translational research with experimental studies performed at our bedside and dedicated research laboratories in Building 1A, 5th floor.
