Contents

Module 1. To Establish an Internship, 1.5 credits.
In this module, the student arranges an internship placement based on their own wishes and opportunities. The student specifies, in consultation with the department of Informatics and the representative of the internship organization, the specific tasks that the internship entails. The practical supervision on the internship site is designed individually between supervisor and student and is specified in an individual internship plan. The design and content of the internship are planned individually. The tasks can be of both an operational and strategic nature.

Module 2. Internship Work, 13.5 credits.
In this module, the student carries out an internship in a public or private organization in Sweden or abroad. The aim is for the student to have the opportunity to translate previously acquired knowledge and experience in Informatics into applied work. During the module, the student develops the ability to integrate theory and practice to perform qualified tasks as well as the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others. Furthermore, the student actively learns about the terms, conditions, and work practices that affect the organization where the internship is located.

Required Knowledge

Informatics. Admission to the course requires 150 higher education credits in completed courses, of which 90 higher education credits in informatics, including an approved degree project for a bachelor's degree in informatics or equivalent.

Form of instruction

Learning is supported primarily through compulsory internship work, and through seminars and supervision in connection with self-studies. Some teaching sessions may be compulsory. The language of instruction can be English. During the course, students have access to a number of the department's computer labs.

The internship period is approximately nine weeks, corresponding to approximately 35 hours of practical work per week. Individual assignments and seminars correspond to approximately five hours per week.

Examination modes

Module 1. To Establish an Internship, 1.5 credits.
Examination is done in the form of individual assignments: independently establishing an internship and designing an internship plan. The grading scale for the module is Pass (G) or Fail (U).

Module 2. Internship Work, 13.5 credits.
Examination is done through completed internship work, individual assignments and seminars. The grading scale for the module is Pass (G) or Fail (U).

Grades on the course as a whole are awarded when the student has passed all examinations and compulsory course elements. To receive the grade Pass (G) for the course, the student must have achieved at least the grade Pass (G) in both modules.

The examiner has the right, in consultation with the supervisor, to decide to terminate the ongoing internship in the event that the student demonstrates such deficiencies in knowledge, skills or approach that these, individually or in combination, entail a significant risk that the student may harm another person physically or mentally. The student then interrupts their internship prematurely and receives the grade Fail on the current course.

The number of examination opportunities on the course's internship work parts is limited to two. For any other examining elements in the course, for example individual assignments or seminars, students who do not pass after two attempts have the possibility to complete remaining assignments during subsequent re-exam periods.

When a student has failed an exam on two occasions, they have the right to request another examiner or grading teacher. Requests for a new examiner or grading teacher are made to the Director of Studies at the Department of Informatics.

If special circumstances arise, the examiner has the right to decide on another type of exam.

Other regulations

To arrange an internship and to finance travel, housing, etc. is the student's own responsibility. Before the internship begins, the internship, the supervisor and the main tasks must be approved by the course coordinator. Students who have applied for the course will not be registered until the student has arranged an internship on their own and has had their internship plan approved.
