Contents
The purpose is to give the student opportunities to increase his/her knowledge in and to give an application of statistical methodology and one or more statistical techniques. The thesis work can be performed independently or in groups of two persons. It shall be published in a written report and may be based on;
- a review and summary of the literature on a specific theoretical or methodological problem,
- active collaboration in a research program,
- performing or making a critical review of a statistical investigation,
- performing a statistical consultation,
The thesis may be completely detached from or a continuation and expansion of a C-level (B.Sc.) thesis in statistics.
Expected learning outcomes
- to give to the student a deeper understanding of central parts of statistical theory,
- to give to the student a broader knowledge about statistical models, methods and techniques,
- to increase the student's ability of using statistical models, methods and techniques in an independent and critical manner.
Required Knowledge
Univ: 15 ECTS advanced level in statistics or equivalent. English course B at Swedish gymnasium or equivalent.
Form of instruction
Determined by the teacher responsible for the course.
Examination modes
The grading system consists of the three grades; Fail, Pass and Pass with distinction. For passing the course, the student should show a satisfactory ability in using statistical methods and techniques, and to present problems and results in an appropriate manner. The thesis must be presented and defended at a public seminar. An opponent is appointed by the teacher responsible for the course. The mark is decided by the examinator. For the mark Pass it is also required that the student has been active as opponent of a one year master thesis.
