Contents

The aim of the course is to develop spatial interventions in the "here and now" and therefore emphasizes the primary task of the architect: the literal transformation of space. The student works with performative methods and is thereby introduced to research via architectural spatial transformations, experience-based techniques and improvisational methods based on the body ́s interaction with its spatial and material context, as well as the documentation of performative events and construction.

The course deals with the practise of architecture as direct, transversal and diffractive. A practise that intervenes between and through people and places and has a social, cultural and political effect. Via performative projects, ethical values become immediate and political stances exposed.

The course is divided into four sections:
1. Introduction ”Conditions of Engagement”: Performative and Transformative Practises (1.5 ECTS)
2. The Methods and Methodologies of Engagement (3.5 ECTS)
3. Field Trips (1.5 ECTS)
4. Performative Project (13.5 ECTS)

Expected learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Be able to implement a clearly described design method for realizing an urban environment
- Have acquired knowledge of theory and practise from other fields that can influence architectural design and production
- Understand how this knowledge can be used to conceptualize and represent architecture
- Be able to select, develop and critically evaluate the spatial, aesthetic, technological and social aspects of a proposal
- Be able to critically evaluate, select and integrate structural principles and construction technologies appropriate to the scale and complexity of the project

Form of instruction

Classes will be held in the form of project work - individual and group - including independent study, practical exercises and workshops, individual and group tutorials, review and lectures, seminars and field trips.

Examination modes

The final grade for this course will be based on oral and written examinations conducted individually and in group form. On-going evaluation is conducted through exercises, review, compulsory assignments and documentation of the student ́s work process and results. The field trip may be substituted with an equivalent assignment. The course will be graded by attendance at all mandatory teacher-led classes and on-going evaluation conducted through exercises and documentation. The grading scheme is pass/fail. In order to successfully complete the course all compulsory oral, written and practical assignments must be completed and passed. Students, who have not passed the course at the ordinary examination, will be given another examination date. The student has the right to another examiner if he/she has not passed the course or parts of the course after two examinations, if nothing speaks against it (HF 6 chapter. 22§). The request for a new examiner should be aimed at the board for the Architecture School.

ACCREDITATION
Accreditation is handled on an individual basis. This course cannot be examined together with another course with similar contents. In case of uncertainty the student should contact the person responsible for the education at the Architecture School.
