AI Policy Lab Day is a full-day event designed to explore practical, critical, and cross-sector perspectives on AI governance, ethics, and implementation.
Hosted by the AI Policy Lab at Umeå University, the day offers keynote talks, research spotlights, and an informal support clinic with the goal of connecting researchers, students, policymakers, and practitioners working in or around AI.

• Welcome and AI Policy Lab updates (also via Zoom) Prof. Virginia Dignum, Umeå University • Keynote: Prof. Sennay Ghebreab, University of Amsterdam (also via Zoom) Rethinking Question Zero in AI On the ethical and strategic decision of whether AI is the right solution to a given problem. • AI Policy research snapshots: Insights from AI Policy Lab researchers on themes such as: – AI & human rights – Healthcare and education – Transparency and explainability • Talk by Dr. Daniel McQuillan, Goldsmiths, University of London Decomputing: Justice & AI from Below • AI Policy Café – Drop-in Clinic An informal session where participants are invited to bring real-life AI-related cases, dilemmas, or challenges. Receive practical guidance, useful resources, and a space to think through possible solutions together.

Film Screening: Humans in the Loop Location: Rotundan, Universum
This award-winning independent documentary follows Nehma, a young Adivasi woman in India working as a data annotator for AI systems. The film explores themes of invisible labor, indigenous knowledge, and the global AI supply chain and invites reflection on who builds AI and under what conditions.
