Ethics Support Group for Internet Researchers!

During this HITS session at Humlab we will form an ethics support group for internet researchers. Bring your ethics dilemma to the table!

This session is organized with inspiration from the keynote, "The ethical importance of critical epistemologies" at the CDSMR conference in Umeå in March 2019, by Internet research and ethics "guru" Annette Markham, professor at the School of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University, where she called for the need of ethics support groups for internet researchers. Markham also argued for the need for researchers to view themselves, and act more as activists in relation to ethics policys, which still mostly is formulated in relation to analogue research situations and cases. When " the scene" is somewhat changed, researchers sometimes need to go back to the basics and redefine the need for and use of ethics in research, Markham suggested.

At this seminar we will do just that!

The seminar will start with a walk through of analog ethics policies and the ethics guidelines formulated by AOIR. From this starting point, present researchers can help each other with ethical dilemmas and situations in ongoing studies, by sharing and discuss possible ways of handling these dilemmas and research situations.
