Every fall term at Umeå School of Architecture starts with a Vertical Workshop engaging all students and staff of the school. The idea behind the Vertical Workshop is to work together around a common project and theme, where all students and staff can learn more about the city of Umeå, the school and ourselves. It is an opportunity to develop new skills and strengthen existing ones, to exchange knowledge within the school and with the surrounding communities.
The theme of this year is The Art of Gathering, where the students analyses social, cultural, political, historical and geographical gatherings. The students investigates the historical role of Folkets Hus [House of the People]: a civic space designed to celebrate and nurture communities, and develops proposals for a Folkets Hus of today. The workshop finishes with a festival - with presentations, performance and food. The festival is open to the public.
Umeå School of Architecture will film and photograph the event for analogue and digital communication about the workshop and the event.
