Erik Björn is a professor in environmental analytical chemistry and his research mainly concerns the biogeochemistry of mercury. Erik’s research group studies how the chemical structure (speciation) of mercury controls processes which are central for the cycling of mercury in the environment. The aim is to both understand such processes at the molecular level and to establish their importance in natural environments. Erik will talk about how his team strive to gain new knowledge about mercury processes by studies along different types of vertical and spatial gradients in the Baltic Sea.
